Allen would have lost to Webb by 5 or 6 points, if the election had been conducted honestly, say with hand-counted paper ballots.
Check the exit polls in Virginia and Montana, where the actual "voting" was conducted on hackable, riggable, Republican-run, secret-software electronic voting machines, and you will notice that the Republican candidates almost "won" their elections, whereas in the exit polls they both lost to the Democratic candidates by several points.
The point is that we have to get rid of all electronic computerized voting machines and vote tabulating machines as soon as possible and return to hand-counted paper ballots in all American elections. Otherwise, the GOP may be in a position to electronically steal the 2008 Presidential election, as they stole the 2000 and 2004 Presidential elections...
I would suggest that Rove and the GOP election hackers, riggers and stealers laid off in the 2006 House races, because they figured (rightly) that they were a lost cause. However, it looks like they tried some electronic alterning of the numbers in at least the Montana and the Virginia Senate races.
Cheers
About time. I liked the CNN assessment of why men voted for Allen: because Allen's father was a well known football coach. Yeah, that's a good reason to vote for a known racist.
Posted by ann at November 9, 2006 09:50 AMcongrats to 'Jim A James' for coming out on top--I think that the ballot fiasco is part of the unstated reasoning on Allen's camp's part--this hasn't been mentioned much in the mainstream media (at least not when I was watching it), and it is an indictment of the lame status of computerized voting as we know it today.
also, i'm very happy to switch from saying 'Senator Macaca' to just plain ol' 'George Macaca!'
Posted by cheSF at November 9, 2006 09:56 AMMSNBC is reporting that Conrad Burns has conceded to Jon Tester in Montana.
Posted by snark at November 9, 2006 10:03 AMThe "My daddy the coach" appeal was a huge part of his first statewide campaign (for governor). You just have to look at the caliber of candidates/statewide representation to see what trogs people can be in VA: feckless Chuck Robb, John Warner--a perennial on "worst Senator" lists, Ollie North, and George Allen. Webb is a huge improvement, but could only squeek by. By many yearsticks, Kaine & the Dem Warner are unimpressive and Doug Wilder sqaundered his term in office.
Posted by Rich at November 9, 2006 10:05 AMI think George "tobacco-chewing" Allen's political career is over.
Expect to see read about him becoming a lobbyist. Maybe for the same outfit Rick "man on dog sex" Santorum is supposedly going to work for next year.
God, what a pair of scumbags.
Posted by Christopher at November 9, 2006 10:07 AMWelcome to America, George Felix Allen
Posted by T2 at November 9, 2006 10:20 AM'Bout time Burns conceded, snark. Now for Allen this afternoon, and the senate is ours! Mwahahaha. Look out, world - free abortions and gay sex for everyone! I'm going out to burn a bible and flag right now.
Posted by iamcoyote at November 9, 2006 10:27 AMJames,
those were my thoughts exactly. As I stated in the past couple of weeks, I think the extent that they can rig the machines and get away with it is only about 3 to 5 points maximum.
I'm not saying that there was voter fraud, but looking at exit polls, which I tend to trust over proprietary corporate machines, certainly makes me wonder.
Posted by Simp at November 9, 2006 11:14 AMRumsfeld to be charged with war crimes. I'm sure it will be hitting the news shortly as it was brought up on Democracy Now this morning. I just googled and found this bite on the story http://www.shortnews.com/shownews.cfm?id=58237&CFID=21596117&CFTOKEN=94632390 but I'm sure there's more. Now that Rummy has left the protective shield of his office, his actions will leave him accountable. Sad that this has been initiated by a foreign country rather than a US Congressional investigation.
Posted by mainsailset at November 9, 2006 11:34 AMWhy would Allen want to run again for the Senate? I thought he was bored with the place and was only running again because he thought he needed it to mount his presidential bid (oops). If he runs for anything else again (especially now that his presidential hopes are dead and buried), I'd say it'd be for the VA governor's seat again.
My prediction: he's done. You don't blow a sure thing race like this so spectacuarly and come back. At least Santorum could say truthfully that he was an underdog from the get-go (did he ever NOT trail Casey in the polls in that race?). Allen, on the other hand, will go down as the biggest choke artist of the 2006 election. And "maccaca" is thankfully preserved for all time on YouTube.
Posted by gf120581 at November 9, 2006 11:46 AMI didn't think there was any way that Allen would come within 7200 votes of keeping his job after the revelations during this campaign.
Webb seems like he'll make a good Senator, but he wasn't such a hot campaigner, as I recall. He had trouble kissing butt and raising money. Both of those things are crucial in campaigns, and Warner is miles better than Webb at both of them.
No, Allen would be well advised to find a sinecure at some crypto-racist organization and get the hell out of big-league politics for good.
Posted by dj moonbat at November 9, 2006 12:21 PMall i can say is ..good fucking riddance..and don't slam the fucking door
Posted by dennis at November 9, 2006 12:25 PMIt's onto the burgeoning rolls of the wingnut welfare system for maccaca, although he might be too blindly stupid even for such "work" as that.
If the peter principle actually held (and I don't mean our resident authoritarian "winner"), Allen went at least two levels above where he should have stopped. Ditto his failed emperor, Nero Jr.
With Dems increasing in power in DC, I wonder if washed-up, has-been "conservative" losers might find that the welfare system just doesn't seem to have quite as much "funding" as it once did. I suppose there's no end to the funds our corporate robber barons and mega-wealthy "conservatives" will pay to continue their treasury looting operation. Good investment strategy, got to give them that.
Dems really need to start asking the televised media boys about who's chosen for all these yapping analysis "panels" and why.
Posted by euzoius at November 9, 2006 12:39 PMAllen: "The bible teaches us that there is a time and a place for everything".
He can now join Santorum in the private sector preparing for the rapture.
I god some ascension robes I'd like ta sell em.
Are we finally trending away from a theocracy?
Posted by TIKI AL at November 9, 2006 04:24 PMA friend of mine pointed out that today's concessions were from -- Burns and Allen!
