Comments: Rummy Hit With War Crimes Lawsuit

Sweet! Life is good.

And it's unlikely that any potential pardon Bushmeat may contemplate would not extend to the Hague. Very sweet indeed. (:>

Maybe he and Saddam can shake hands again...

...on the gallows.

But seriously, I rather think this lawsuit will be going away.

But seriously, I rather think this lawsuit will be going away.

Probably, but it is so damn delicious to have this weasel-eyed bastard held to account by any person or group. And to have the AMERICAN commanding general lay out the timeline of occurrences and the procedures implemented by Rummy? Fucking priceless!

While I'm at it:

Count the number of officers who had their careers ended by Rummy, and that is the number of knives you're going to see sticking out of his back quite soon. No doubt, when he dies of some natural cause, he'll be buried with his boots on either side of his head.

Our officer corps is composed of mostly very very honorable people. That's one claim this DefSec cannot lay claim to. Payback is going to be a bitch.

I don't see why this lawsuit will go away. There was one before that did go away, but the Bushista clout is dwindling by the minute. I agree that the generals by and large are damn good guys, though with a conservative bent. They couldn't stand Rumsfield but they had to follow his orders -- until they retired. That's why you had six retired generals get together and demand his resignation. That was a beautiful moment in American military history, along with the Specialist from the Kentucky National Guard asking him why they had to go through junkyards to armor their vehicles.

I think we should encourage the lot of them to travel to The Hague. I bet we could even get some clever rich people with integrity to loan us a Lear jet for their rendition- I mean vacation.

The MSM will never mention this in their news. Too bad.

Fucking Ironic!!!!!! Makes me want to visit the Holocaust Museum here in DC and stare at my dad's Army unit flag in the hall of liberators! Stare and stare and go to a bar nearby and get royally stinking drunk on vodka. His unit liberated Langenstein labor camp, a satellite camp outside Dachau in WW2. Fucking ironic and tragic for the United States.

rummy is this generation's McCarthy, if anyone in this generation even knows what that represents.

rummy is this generation's McCarthy

I get your point, but I think he's maybe more Reinhard Heydrich or Heinrich Muller in his qualities.

If this suit is so trivial perhaps someone in DC will tell me again why the SoD is not attending the security affairs conference in Germany next month.

This has gotten only minimal play in Germany, since the prosecutor's office hasn't decided yet. So the court has been petitioned to open a criminal hearing, and they are handling this with care. I think it stands a 50-50 chance of being brought to formal indictment.

Merkel may lean on the courts, but her hands are tied. She can't pardon beforehand, and even if she could it would be too risky a step for her to take. She can't afford to look like Bush's lap dog or the SPD coalition partners will break ranks and force new elections.

"Only the Bush Administration could be lectured on war crimes by the Germans."

While I'm sure it wasn't meant as a joke, that line gave me my first good laugh of the day. Thanks for the sad, but true, story.
