I knew this point would come. Just didn't know when.
I think that now that they come to the table, I fear that there will be too many "compromises" made. Still I'll accept any _reasonable_ progress.
Also, I'm fearful of the political moves made to grab the credit. It'll be interesting to watch it shake out.

Bush Should Go On Fox News To Confess: “If I Did It--Here's How The Civil War In Iraq Happened”...

President Bush delivered his Saturday radio address this morning, clearly defining his new Iraq policy of 'stay the courts'. The president's explanation of new WH policy is the longest ever recorded in 69 years of presidential radio addresses, taking more than four hours of what WH council Dan Bartlett described as 'containing some facts'.
Donald Rumsfeld has lost no time in transitioning from US Secretary of Defence to a Dickie Dee Ice Cream partner. His supervisor, U Dead, stated 'He's ok. Doesn't sell really well, but he doesn't steal from me. His Iraq policy is absolutely brilliant. Invade a country and totally f*ck it up. That's what Dickie Dee is all about'.
Speaker-elect Nancy Pelosi has contracted Rats R Us to inspect and correct the office of former Congressional Speaker Dennis Hastard. No reason was given, and M.J. Tatum, speaking anonymously, stated 'it wasn't serious, but it had to do with a sexually transmitted disease'.
Actress Jessica Simpson stunned her fans this morning with the announcement that she has become Saudi King Abdullah's 47th wife. No details were given, although reports from Riyadh confirmed that a US citizen and former pizza technician will be stoned to death this afternoon.
WH Press Secretary Tony Snow announced today that Vice President Dick Cheney had his twelfth heart transplant this morning at Bethesda Naval Hospital. He is expected to live.
We don't have a big margin of error or a lot of chances to get CO2 reductions "right".
We're already at the very end of window of opportunity on stopping the meltdown, thanks to Republican and "conservative" global warming denial for the last decade, essentially. These vicious, anti-intellectual forces of reaction and blind head-in-the-sand ignorance have (as usual) only dug the hole deeper and made the transition and sacrifice more difficult when responsible adults take over. God, what moral criminals.
Any legislation must have the climate scientists' approval that it is likely to result in the levels of CO2 reduction required to have a chance of working. The scientists must sign off on the final "package".
Affected climate warming industries should have very little say in the matter--they have shown themselves time and again to be interested ONLY in their own profit, never in the public good or the long term health of the country or the economy. They did everything they could to mislead the public and lie about this most crucial environmental problem facing humanity--never forget this.
They are bad actors, have unclean hands and are filled with bad faith. They cannot be otherwise, it is their very nature, their essence.
Corporations legally exist ONLY to generate profit for "shareholders" and their obscenely wealthy "officers", hence these people can have no disinterested judgement on any matter whatsoever, least of all economic regulation involving their businesses.
We'll see if the Dems can put the public good over the lure of immense campaign contributions from these industry criminals. If our creaking democratic system fails this time, there won't be another chance for the planet.

Benditto, I didn't know you were a drug dealer. Can I have your number?
Posted by tempus at November 25, 2006 08:39 AMLOL,
I just knew Benditto couldn't resist this thread.
I particularly liked the line about threatening civil liberties.

I guess earthly kingdoms matter more to them than heavenly ones. Count me as not surprised.
I, for one, welcome our new environmentalist overlords! When will the hemp-sandaled thugs be storming my neighborhood, bendittohead, so I can be ready to collaborate with tofu and bean sprouts and recycling bins? All hail the Earth-Tone Gods!
Posted by iamcoyote at November 25, 2006 09:16 AMThe Right to Own a Hummer---isn't that the 18th Amendment? It's in there somewhere!
In his "longer" posts, bendodo always lets his preference for "intellectual" words overcome what he is trying to say. The program gets gummed up as more "vocabulary" is programmed in.
It would be a week long task to try and unpack all the lunacy and incoherence in bendodo's latest effort. Ignorance AND incoherence, what a combination--the "conservative" mind in action!
