This is something I will raise with my Blairite new labour mp
Posted by littlejohnuk at November 25, 2006 12:46 PMThe Bush administration is all too keen that holding onto power is best accomplished when chaos and anarchy is raining down on the world.
There is absolutely no question in my mind that Bush I, Cheney, Von Rumsfeld, Bush II, Bolten, Rice, et al, represent the greatest threat greatest threat our nation has ever known.
We may be celebrating Democratic victories in the Congress, but this gang of neocon, new world order thugs, if not removed via impeachment, still have two years left on the clock to wreck havoc on us.
When everyone jumped on Enron, I think that Liebermann also did, but his committee was an ineffectual coverup kind of investigation.
He seems to be pretty good at 'talking the talk' and making sure no one notices he ain't walking.
Another reason he is so loved by the Republicans.
Shure, Holy Joe will do his investigation and this will be his conclusion:
"Our Bright and Shiny Leader sent the Forces of Good out to fight the Big Hairy Other and they have returned victorious. Any suggestion to the contrary in a time of war is Treasonous and I am setting up an emergency hearing to get to the bottom of these rumors I have been hearing that some terrorist sympathizers have been spreading propaganda that our Forces of Light may have actually effected an investigation of terrorists in Britain. This is of course absurd and impossible, so when we find the Traitourous leakers they will immediatly be rendered to an undisclosed destination for an indeterminate amount of time where unmentionable uncomfortable interrogation techniques will be tried out. Or not. Thank You."
Posted by Paul XQ at November 25, 2006 02:53 PMI would hasten to say that these are alleged terrorists. The fact that the plan to formulate a liquid bomb (tri-acetone tri-peroxide) in an airplane lavatory is difficult, bordering on the impossible hasn't stopped this country from depriving airline travelers of more liberties. And now, guess what, the suspects have escaped. Another bullshit allegation need not be proved.
We are being taken for a ride my fellow countrymen. The "War on Terror" is being manufactured by our collective leadership in order to control and intimidate us.
Why? One cannot be sure, but I would wager that this government is preparing to control massive civil unrest through authoritarian methods. Is it peak oil? global warming? economic collapse? Hard to say, but it is definitely not "Islamo-fascism".
Posted by brisa at November 25, 2006 03:11 PMone guy in history makes a shoe-bomb that was not even proved operational, some other guys mess around with hair gel to make bombs that is never close to operational.....yet American's of all ages have to take off their shoes at airports and can't even (until recently) take normal hygienic stuff like toothpaste, and deodorant on airplaines. If I was a newly elected Dem, the first hour of the 100 hours would be to restore sanity and civility to air travel. We need to stop this Rule by Fear.
Posted by T2 at November 25, 2006 03:34 PMI figure we will see a snowball effect next year in Congress.
While someone like Lieberman might initially try coddling the Bush administration, while claiming to still be a Democrat, and while he actively seeks to hamper any thorough and credible investigations into the "culture of corruption" running rampant through the Bush/Cheney/Gonzales White House, other Democratic Party chairpeople, the more Democrat Democrats in the House and Senate, will launch competent investigations, uncovering all manner of criminal activities, that will force Lieberman to make a choice: remain a Democrat and hold hearings to actually hold the Bush Repubicans accountable or switch parties.
However, this is what is so fantastic about the Democrats gaining control of both chambers of Congress...even though Lieberman may decide to subvert Democratic control of the Senate next year...committees will finally hold hearings, witnesses will finally be subpoenaed and if necessary required to testify under oath, and comprehensive investigations will finally be conducted.
And if Lieberman wants to be part of the solution and help clean up the Bush corruption and neo-con corruption up in Washington...fine. If not, if Lieberman wants to give cover to his neo-con pals, thus remaining part of the problem, then there are plenty of true Democrats who will get the job done.
BTW, one of the investigations I'd love to see Rep. Waxman begin in early 2007 is into the secret "detention centers" that are being built around the country for immigration "and for other purposes."
Where are they located? How many have been built? How much did each of them cost? What's their holding capacity? Are they sitting empty or have people been arrested and are being detained at any of these secret "detention centers"?
I'd like to know. I doubt if Sen. Lieberman even cares, even though the committee he is scheduled to chair in the U.S. Senate should be at the forefront of investigating these secret "detention centers." We'll see.
Posted by The Oracle at November 26, 2006 01:11 AMThe Oracle, here's an interesting article on FEMA's role in times of crisis and detention centers. I found the article terrifying.
