Mary Cheney and her partner, Heather Poe, are going to be parents!

Yes, the Republican lesbian daughter of Vice President Dick is with child.

Mary Cheney, everyone will recall, helped chair her father's campaign and came under fire in 2000 and 2004 for refusing to speak out in support of gay rights and gay marriage equity.

The grandparents-to-be, Vice President Dick Cheney and his wife Lynne, are said to be "thrilled."

As long as David Crosby doesn't have a hand in it, mazeltov.

I can't imagine the liberal David Crosby sperminating the GOP Mary Cheney. No amount of money is worth that.

Maybe it was George Bush Jr., son of Jebby and Frijola, or whatever her name is?

I think it's fantastic that Mary Cheney is pregnant! The more the fundies have to deal with people who aren't just like them (white, married, hetero, Christian) but happen to share some of the same political ideology, the possibility for acceptance grows.

Silver Reyes calls for more US troops for Iraq. Didn't take him long to start throwing his weight around. I wonder what Pelosi is thinking today- or did they not bother to ask Silver what his position on Iraq was before appointing him? This is not good.

"America’s Son," by Wesley Clark is to be released in the fall 2007. Clark's personal view of military events that have shaped the world should be interesting. The book is a "groundbreaking vision for America’s future as viewed by a four-star general who served as NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander." Good timing Clark.

Oh, what the hell, T2---give 'em another 20,000 troops! Why not, if they're so set on it. Make it 50,000! The extra troops must be lying around here somewhere...

It's hard to see how Reyes could vomit this out accidentally. And how in Hell can he retract such a thing now? He's stuck with, so he must actually belive it. A bit of a monkey wrench....

Several military analysts like William Lind (Counterpunch 11/30) have said that no one can explain exactly WHAT these St John reinforcements would actually DO in Iraq right now. We don't even have anything useful for the 140,000 troops that are there now to do.

They sit in forward operating bases, hunkered down. Sometimes they protect convoys or engage in "patrols" and become targets. Or they conduct raids and infuruate some segment of the populace. So this is what the extra troops are needed for? McCain certainly never explains what the additional troops are needed for--how about it, Reyes? More is just better?

The latest Iraqi poll has overwhelming numbers of Iraqis saying they want us gone yesterday or at least beginning our withdrawal today. And we have our elected clowns braying about sending more troops!

It's psychological denial, pure and simple. And that way madness, folly and doom lie.

Silver Reyes calls for more US troops for Iraq.

Well, it's part of his campaign package, so what wasn't to know? As far as I can tell it isn't increasing the level to win. It's a rational examination of what he thinks should happen in Iraq. This is what he apparently told Pelosi before she supported him:

...when asked what he told Pelosi about his thinking on Iraq, Reyes replied: What I said was, we can't afford to leave there. And anybody who says, we are going pull out our troops immediately, is being dishonest. We're all interested in getting out of Iraq. That's a common goal. How we do it, I think, is the tough part. There are those that say, they don't care what Iraq looks like once we leave there. Let's just leave there. And I argue against that. I don't think that's responsible. And I think it plays right into the hands of Syria and Iran.

I don't disagree with Reyes over increasing troop levels...but I believe those should be support and to get the Iraqis trained. I do find it refreshing that people don't have to agree with Pelosi in lock-step fashion. I think it's fairly apparent that she thinks she chose the best person for the House Intelligence Committee. I can't argue with that. I hope she is looking for competence, not just someone who is a "yes" man.

I pity the child. It may be born rich, but what a whack job of a family to be in.

euzoius, I'm by no means a military analyst. But I would send extra troops to expedite the extradiction of men, material, and break down of existing bases. Have them fall back to a staging area for the final drawdown. However, I'm sure this is not what they want them for.

They could also want them for additional relief between patrols and missions for existing troops in country. It would provide more R & R and possibly add morale.

I've said before, that all 5 of my relatives (and all their friends) who have been in Iraq, do not trust working or training with any Iraqi's.
Somehow bu$h and other politicians don't see this reality!!

It's really plain and simple we need to get the fuck out...now!
That said, there is so much money tied up with all these contrators, leaving immediately would piss off all these corporations and the employees. Shit, as long as we still have a government teat feeding them we aren't going anywhere!

I pity the child.

I pity the sperm donor. I bet he didn't know his ejaculate would be wasted in this fashion. I just hope the kid doesn't inherit gampy deadeye's target aquisition and spatial abilities. I bet the kid gets the fine motor skills and precise enough pincher-grasp to pick an Americans pocket.

Have you not figured out yet that we're there to protect the Saudi oil fields and refineries in case there's an uprising in Saudi Arabia. Those permanent bases aren't being built for nothing. This has been the plan all along in my opinion.

well, I guess it is good that the Dems don't march in lockstep, but Reyes has now placed himself to the right of the rest of them and against what the vast majority of americans want. I guess he could just as well call for 100,000 more troops while he's at it. Maybe 1,000,000. Ain't gonna happen anyway. But he did vote against the war power Bush got, so I'll give him a pass this time. I hope this isn't the beginning of a "maverick" act.

Isn't Mary Cheney concerned that the little tyke may be addicted to OxyContin at birth?

TIKI, What's up? Where you been?
That's one long hangover after Harry defeated J.D.!

Posted by Seven of Six at December 6, 2006 07:57 AM

Well, if powerful Dems start calling for a "short term" additional troops as well, then St John's reinforcement scheme not going to be such a political "impossibility" as it's portayed now.

Part of me thinks, let their sunk cost delusion run its course. We've already utterly squandered $500 billion and killed hundreds of thousands, as well as broken our military and killed and maimed thousands upon thousands of soldiers. What's a little more blood and treasure, right?

Rightists think 20,000-30,000 more troops doing more of the same is going to make a huge, decisive difference in Iraq? Will it make the kids happy and keep them quiet in the future?

OK, Fine, find 'em somewhere and send 'em. The troops themselves seem not to mind and usually tell reporters they're happy to be bringing democracy to muslims, but vets and others with access to more info from the troops may know better.

The only thing is, after calling St John's bluff, implementing the "more troops" gambit and (inevitably) having their prescription completely fail again, what will the militarists "call for" next? There's no end to their bad judgement, you know.

And the Taliban is actually starting to re-take Afghanistan, so it's not like there aren't some REAL military missions out there for any "extra" troops we've got lying around.

Posted by euzoius at December 6, 2006 08:02 AM

No deadline. All I wanted to hear from this group was the deadline for troop withdrawal. As far as I am concerned, the "committee" has done nothing but bought more time.

George has until the end of December to adopt their plan, according to Hamilton. We shall see.

certainly no one is suggesting that the VP might be the donor?
