Personally, McCain is an insane man willing to kill his own, and thousands of others to gain what he wants. a BIG place in a country stained by international crimes of his own making. This poor fellow must be extremely sick to enjoy killing this much to include his son?
you have to wonder why an ex POW from an earlier "non" war, would want to keep killing like this? is it just pathological? or is it a combination of monetary and political gain?
this isn't something we as humans should do when we see someone else acting as if insane, we do not want to make them feel good about such a decision. we need to try to end this kind of thinking, for it will only lead to new wars, and new generations of folks that believe killing is an acceptable alternative to diplomacy.
or do those in power realize that we have to trim a billion or so of our population on this planet to allow the rest to control more of it's resources? Perhaps that is the actual goal?
Posted by oldtree at December 26, 2006 08:47 AMEveryone needs to read Juan Cole's "10 Myths About Iraq," which is posted over at his blog, Informed Comment. It's the last word on most aspects of the war.
Posted by Katherine at December 26, 2006 09:32 AMOne of the most unclear, mysterious aspects of the new Plan 9 from Outer Space is whether this last ditch offensive will be limited to Baghdad, be against the Sunni insurgents, be against the Mahdi Army or against both, in some particular order. Here, the desired tactic (increased troops) comes BEFORE "mission" identification! A sure recipe for victory....
As many here have observed, it doesn't really matter which evildoers are the target---like Steve says, this is all about maintaining the status quo (an American occupying army in Iraq) until Deadeye Dick hands over the remains of our government in 2008. And didn't Nero used to gas on about not wanting to leave currents problems for future presidents to deal with? Another flip-flop, I guess!
Deadeye discounts the possiblity of actual military disaster arising from the Dirge, even though some ex military are starting to envision the upcoming escalation as Stalingrad on the Tigris. Deadeye explains Plan 9 to the mildly retarded "president" as "Double of Nothing". Nero sees himself as quite a successful gambler, not realizing all of his many crap-outs have been paid for by Poppy.
BTW, have 41 and Uncle Jimmy just given up on the ISG? They threw the thrashing kids a lifeline, Deadeye and Nero disdained it, and that's that?
Bushco's level of contempt for the voters, the Congress and the American political system is breathtaking, and the Founders didn't contemplate a Psychopath-in-Chief. If Escalation '07 isn't hatred of America, what is it?
Posted by euzoius at December 26, 2006 09:40 AMHakim just got knee capped. He may want to contact a realtor.
Posted by Daryl at December 26, 2006 09:48 AMOffering his son is the very least McCain can do. They all should offer their sons and daughters, including Bush.
How will McCain feel when his son comes home in a body bag, or with no legs, or no face, or maybe a vegtable? That probably wouldn't make any difference to him. Once a warmonger, always a warmonger, right?
Posted by Judith at December 26, 2006 10:11 AMSaddam to be executed within 30 days. He wants to be shot. The court is considering hanging.
Posted by Judith at December 26, 2006 10:14 AMYep, 25 away from 3,000. Maybe we can reach that number by New Year's Day. Oh, and Happy New Year Bush.
Posted by Judith at December 26, 2006 10:19 AMMcCain just solidified his grip on Republican nomination by offering his son to go to Iraq. Hope McCain does not pay a BIG price for trying to prove his hawkish position on Iraq. It is clear that he will pay any price to get to the Whitehouse.
Posted by suresh at December 26, 2006 10:53 AMIf bu$h is going to continue this same old routine in Iraq with Gates, why did he get rid of Rummy? Was it a chance to have a scapegoat and maybe push his numbers upwards a little?
Same old, same old, nothing changes. Will the Dems put the pressure on? I'm not holding my breath!

Seven of Six, George doesn't need too, nor does he care about the numbers. The tactic of getting rid of Rumsfeld was a ploy to make the American people think that he is going to change the direction of the war. Then he appoints someone who will keep to the agenda, but the people don't know that, yet. Looks good, but there is no substance. Come January, in his speech, he will use different words, but the meaning will not change. Stay the course in Iraq and escalate the madness.
Posted by Judith at December 26, 2006 01:31 PMOh, your right. It was also to pass the blame buck to Rummy.
Posted by Judith at December 26, 2006 01:34 PM...But there is another reason, common to fathers with sons in war.
"The last thing in the world he'd want to do," Timberg said, "is to anger the gods...."
I assume this son Jimmy is from the second wife. You know, the young, rich chickie gal he dumped his previous wife for ( the one who patiently waited all those years for him to come home from POW camp). Complicated karma here, is all I can say. Well, that and to observe that McCain isn't a very deep thinker,. more likely to reason by way of truisms, mottos, and old movie scripts.

The first wife was in a serious car crash while Mr. Scruples was in Nam and ended up being four inches shorter and alot heavier. John cheated his way up to the Budweiser Buffoon.
Get ready to dig up the Lincoln Savings and Loan dirt that earned the good senator a rebuke.
If he thought Rove worked him over in his last run, just you wait. I'll give him "more troops"!
Posted by TIKI AL at December 27, 2006 02:27 AMInteresting contrast in loyalty-- between his brave loyalty to POW comrades, and swift disloyalty to his loyal wife and kids (I seem to remember there were kids).
The possible mafia links of daddy-in-law are interesting, too.
Posted by Julie at December 27, 2006 07:46 AMThe first wife came with 2 kids. She was concearned about them being taken care of after the divorce, so she didn't tell tales out of school.
What a guy. Till death do us part, unless you get deformed in a car wreck, and I find a younger rich girl.
Posted by TIKI AL at December 27, 2006 09:43 AMWhew, what a weird crew of Republican presidential hopefuls, with all their marital histories. They make the Dems look pretty good. Even Bill Clinton looks good maritally compared to them. But my money's on someone like Tommy Thompson as the Repugly candidate, just because of this issue. I know the MSM have chosen Hillary and McCain, but I'm not so sure.
