Sources report Bush will make 3 references to Saddam Hussein and the death by hanging in his SOTU address later this month.
Posted by Christopher at January 2, 2007 04:07 AMSources also report that every time Bush mentions Saddam Hussein in his SOTU address, he will mention 911 and "Al Qaeda and other terrorists" in the next sentence.
Posted by James E. Powell at January 2, 2007 04:11 AMContrary to the hopes of many who are weary of Bush's Iraq war quagmire and want the troops to return home and U.S. involvement to end, Bush will move to act against the will of the people and try to escalate American involvement in the conflict, setting the stage for a showdown with Democrats.
Oddds on favorite Bush, as usual, will get his way.

Depends on the number of Gordon Smith republi-cons in Congress.
Posted by phidipides at January 2, 2007 07:41 AMNero will also be equating Iran with al Qaeda numerous times in his various escalation/sacrifice speeches this month, as Lieberman has been doing lately. Just as Saddam was equated with al Qaeda.
Deadeye and Nero will not listen to the voters or the Baker Realists. As they have already said, they will do exactly what they want to do in Iraq, because they belive the Constitution creates an elective dictatorship in the executive.
Will the Congress confront these out of control authoritarians or appease them? That is what history will be watching in these early months of 2007. This is an enormous constitutional crisis. Keep shopping and driving, America!
