Welcome, Marcy.
Please, do tell us why democ-rats sold out to the pharmaceutical industry.
Posted by phidipides at January 11, 2007 11:15 PMWelcome Marcy. I'm sure we will have many questions for you, and look forward to your answers.
Rice let slip her news media preferences Thursday, saying, "I love every single one" of Fox News network's correspondents and also favors CBS anchor Harry Smith.
In comments overheard on an open microphone between morning television interviews, including one with Fox, the top U.S. diplomat said: "My Fox guys, I love every single one of them."
But Rice told an aide that when she was next in Iraq she would like to do a "one-on-one" interview with CBS "The Early Show" anchor Harry Smith.
I bet she does love Fox. They have been bending over since the day Bush decided to run for the Presidency. Their such good little doobees. Kiss, kiss.
The US Embassy was attacked in Athens, Greece today.

Posted by Judith at January 12, 2007 12:17 AMThis is comforting:
At one point Gates, just three weeks on the job, told lawmakers, "I would confess I'm no expert on Iraq." Later, asked about reaching the right balance between American and Iraqi forces, he told the panel he was "no expert on military matters."
The Senate's top Republican, Mitch McConnell threatened a filibuster to block any legislation expressing disapproval of the buildup plan.
McConnell conceded that GOP lawmakers as well as Democrats are troubled by Bush's new policy, but he said, "Congress is completely incapable of dictating the tactics of the war."
I guess this means that Bush is capable. I've got new for you McConnell, they may not be able to dictate, but they sure as hell can cut your funds off, MF.
Filibuster? Hey Democrats, that's what the guys with balls do. Learn a lesson.

Melinda over at HuffingtonPost says exactly, exactly how I feel.
Do the Democrats think telling a family that their child is never coming home again, because it wasn't politically smart to stop the funding of the war, will be met with understanding.
Melinda Henneberger:
The Democrats Are Divided, Too
There are Democrats on Capitol Hill who seem downright relieved that it may be beyond them to stop the troop escalation proposed by President Bush. Of course Democrats will be blamed, whenever we pull out of Iraq, for undermining the effort from the start with their general bad attitude, or something to that effect. But couldn't we worry about the soldiers first and the blame later?
Thanks eRisposte & TLC for enticing EW over and welcome EmptyWheel!
Did it ever get resolved for the Libby trial if Judge Walton will allow live blogging?
With the events yesterday watching Foreign Relations grill Condi (Bill Nelson saying he'd been lied to); Chris Matthews trying to openly pin Snow down on Bush's plans to attack Iran and now 8-10 Rep Congressmen stridently opposing the escalation it would seem the Libby trial may enjoy a renewed (more open minded) place in people's search for the lies. And if Keith Olbermann can manage not to get shot by Cheney the level of debate certainly seems on the rise.
Last I checked with B&N your book was coming out 1/28, is that still accurate?
Posted by mainsailset at January 12, 2007 07:25 AMWelcome, Marcy, and congrats on the book.

Posted by benjoya at January 12, 2007 08:47 AMWe in the Wilson family are big fans of Marcy and her analysis of the Fitzgerald investigation and upcoming Libby trial. Her obsession relieves us of that burden. Joe Wilson

Posted by mainsailset at January 12, 2007 10:36 AMHi, Marcy. Of the few ultra-complex analysts of The Frogmarch Chronicles, you always seemed the best balance of detail and accessibility. (eriposte sometimes lost me in the weeds, I'm ashamed to admit.)
I happened to run into Jason Leopold at a party a couple weeks ago, and he still insists that Rove's got a sealed indictment hanging over him, at the ready in case he tries to pull a fast one at Libby's trial. I'd be curious to hear just how much credence you give to Luskin's statements (that aren't as categorical as they seem at first blush) about his man being in the clear.
Posted by dj moonbat at January 12, 2007 10:52 AMWow, an true Amabassdor comments.

Posted by Herman at January 12, 2007 04:33 PMWelcome Ms. Wheeler. Any chance of a book signing in Lansing?
Posted by Sharon at January 12, 2007 07:56 PMI have been made aware that Robert Cox of the Media Bloggers Association is planning to arrange a seat at the Libby trial for one of his bloggers - Lance Dutson of
HTTP://mainewebreport.com
Mr Dutson owns the (client-less) web company - "Maine Coast Design". He has ingratiated himself with Bob Cox by offering Mr Cox his services for free.
I have been following Lance Dutson's blog for some time, and have found that most or all of his accusations are brazenly untrue .... untruths about which he has repeatedly been made aware. He has even admitted to knowing that some are inaccurate, but these admissions eventually disappear... and off he goes again, on another rant.
Lance Dutson came out of the gate swinging, and has consistently and pugilistically ignored any invitation to reasonable discourse.
Mr Dutson's champion, Robert Cox, informs me that he has never even read Dutson's blog. I find this, if true, to be an act of extreme negligience.
If you did read Dutson's blog, you would see that the headlines are never corroborated by fact, but rather, link only to more of his own accusations, or even to documents which actually CONTRADICT these accusations.
Apparently, people only read the headlines, and nothing else. And they believe them.
But Dutson appears to get the most gratification out of making searingly vicious personal attacks on total strangers whom he somehow perceives as enemies. And this list grows longer every day.
If anyone disagrees with him in a comment, he turns his hatred on that commenter, with more vicious lies - about him/her...or he deletes the comment entirely.
His behavior is that of a web troll, and nothing more. I find it unfathomable that anyone would assign a seat at the Libby trial, and its resultant journalistic credibility, to someone without ever having checked his credentials.
Web trolls should be eliminated - not elevated.
