I wrote about this earlier; luckily dj moonbat gave me this link for more info.
Posted by iamcoyote at January 30, 2007 12:02 PMIf they're going to be political appointees then Congress shouldn't approve a single one of them.
And they should start passing laws that counteract this garbage:
The White House told agencies that in writing guidance documents, they could not impose new legal obligations on anyone and could not use “mandatory language such as ‘shall,’ ‘must,’ ‘required’ or ‘requirement.’”
Yeah, so it's all voluntary then, isn't it.
They should attach those laws to the minimum wage bill right alongside the goppers precious tax breaks, then forget to include the goppers in the conference bill, and send it off to Bush to have him veto a tax cut. That'll spew some head matter in some parts of DC for sure.
Posted by Duckman GR at January 30, 2007 12:08 PMCongress needs to more specifically task these agencies to accomplish their function, and tie it to, not funding which is what the goppers want-funding cuts for failure, but funding incentives that rewards the desired behavior by the targets or subjects or customers of the agency while also expanding the fiefdom of the agency, add new employees to strengthen their enforcement etc.
You know, tell the EPA that if they get businesses to go Green with their energy choices, the businesses will get federal monies, through earmarks, and the EPA will get funded for x number of new employees, and if they don't, then Congress will cut some tax breaks for Big Oil, and the perks of the political appointees.
The goppers would hate that.

[Editor: ignore=off]Hey Bendito, rather than give your opinion of my suggestions on a policy level, how about on a political level?
Because that's what this is all about, dude. I'm proposing a poison pill, just like your ludicrous Republican Party does, and I'm guessing from your reaction that you didn't get that.
That seems to be a problem that the followers on the right have, a literal mindedness, a blind worship of a non-existant concept-the free market, and a propensity for following the orders or whims of authority figures.
That's a trifecta I'm glad I don't indulge in.
If you're a fisherman, say a deep sea line fisherman, and it's discovered that the activities of lumber companies are destroying your fishery, and as a related consequence of that destruction your, that's right, your personal sphere, drinking water becomes polluted and unhealthy to drink without treatment mitigation, would you think it wrong if some faceless ... bureaucrats [(who are accountable to their superiors mind you)] impos[ed]... regulations on that lumber company? Would you consider that to really be onerous regulations on free Americans ... smother[ing] liberty?
Would that really be an old illiberal repressive compulsive disorder that smothers liberty, or would that actually be the responsible action of a representative government saving not just your economic future, but your life as well, as well as those of thousands maybe millions of your fellow American citizens?
Or maybe you enjoy the consequences of unregulated usage of rivers in your neighborhood?
Fires erupted on the river several more times before June 22, 1969, when a river fire captured the attention of Time magazine, which described the Cuyahoga as the river that "oozes rather than flows" and in which a person "does not drown but decays".[1] This event helped spur an avalanche of pollution control activities resulting in the Clean Water Act, Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement, and the creation of the federal and state Environmental Protection Agency.Posted by Duckman GR at January 30, 2007 08:45 PM
What will this mean for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission? Mushroom clouds in our future because the nuclear power plant companies donate to the Bushies?
Posted by Leslie at January 30, 2007 09:18 PMThey never anticipate that sooner or later all the laws and regulations they passed will be in the hands of the other party.
The Patriot Act with say Hillary in charge...poetic in a way. Then they complain and howl.
