Comments: Molly Ivins Passes Away

She was my favorite political commentator, bar none. What a loss.

She was a treasure. She will be missed

Molly was such an interesting spirit.

I remember attending a fundraiser at her home in South Austin for then governor Bill Clinton back in 1991. I was just out of college and arrived with this huge group of politicos. It was my first high profile fundraiser and I was agog.

Molly was so kind; soft spoken; full of laughter and she had this quick, sharp wit. I was fascinated by a framed picture she had of herself and Sarah Weddington on a shelf. I asked her what those days - of pre-Roe, were like and in that sweet Texas drawl Molly said, "Honey, you can't imagine how better things are now."

I am truly saddened. Molly, you will be missed.

I read Molly Ivins for years. I considered her one of the best things from Texas. Rest In Peace!

Nobody did it better than Molly. She will be missed every day.

My condolences.

Many years ago, I bought my Momma a copy of Ivins' book Molly Ivins Can't Say That, Can She? for Christmas, and I think it was her favorite thing that year.

All the lady wits of my state are passing away. What a sad piece of news!

Molly Ivins spoke to my political science class at the University of Texas in 1982...I thought she was the most honest, insightful, funny person I had ever seen. She will be missed.

That's a great story, Christopher.

My Momma invited Weddington to speak to a dinner party of her female students at a restaurant in Westlake many years ago, and I got to play the token male. I remember thinking it was an honor that Ms. Weddington gave me her car keys to hold onto and asked me to help her in and out with her presentation materials.

I don't think I ever got to meet Molly, though, but she was a great hero to my Momma, which is the important thing for me tonight.

Well, she must have been a hero to your mother, because for once you're being respectful. Good for you.

See Molly Ivins at her satirical best in a video called The Dildo Diaries...here:

Great, not only is my stomach upset, but now I feel soiled and violated.

"There's nothing you can do about being born liberal - fish gotta swim and hearts gotta bleed."

Although I have read Molly for years, she was in St. Louis a couple of years ago, and I went to see her. Reading Molly Ivins and hearing her in person are two entirely different things. What a joy it was to listen to her delivery, her quips and sarcastic remarks, all delivered in a very quiet dignified manner. Will miss reading you Ms. Ivins. RIP

Sucks.

Too bad she had to depart this world in the midst of the mess we're in.

I just can't believe it. Shit! Molly saved Texas from the horror of Bush; as in, she was a Texan so don't judge all Texas because asshole lived there in Midland. Notice she never had that chew'baccy accent that W and even Laura pose which is the atmosphere of the cowhand circa 1862 compared to the dulcet, culture tones of Molly. What I mean to say is that a person with a brain and some class is distinguished from the watershed peasants......FUCK BUSH AND ALL OF THE HEARTBREAK HE BROUGHT TO THINKERS AND TRUE AMERICANS LIKE MOLLY IVINS!!! Mal is pissed and sad as hell...

As I said, all of my family in Texas, the Democrats are heartbroken that another grand soul has died for the cause of peace; the Haliburton Republican members are probably tickled pink by Molly's demise because they're jerks.

Has anybody planned a party for the end of the world this summer, via Bush Cheney's nuclear attack on Iran?

I'm doing Texas barbeque...

"For a woman who made a profession of offering her opinion to others, Molly was remarkably humble. She was known for hosting unforgettable parties at her Austin home, which would feature rollicking political discussions, and impromptu poetry recitals and satirical songs. At one such event, I noticed her dining table was littered with various awards and distinguished speaker plaques, put to use as trivets for steaming plates of tamales, chili and fajita meat. When I called this to her attention, Molly matter-of-factly replied, 'Well, what else am I going to do with 'em?'"

Bye, old girl.

Molly could always be counted on to raise our morale, at the same time as she made us laugh. Thanks Molly, for all your quips and your wisdom. And it is for good reason that we offer the laurel wreath to the brave.

Your humor still touches our hearts as we grieve. That's as it should be, when you are remembered, as an irrepressible spirit

sorry for such an inelegant reaction - just never imagined we'd ever lose her, even with the cancer - she just went on

damn I love you always Molly

and the burgeoning tide of bullshit-despisers and snarkistas will always be in your debt

wish I could sum up what you meant to me, but at a loss

Posted by Sharkbabe at January 31, 2007 09:07 PM

a shame. RIP

And just when we need all the humor we can get.

Peace
