Comments: Senate Passes Minimum Wage Boost

I believe that Bush will choose to assault Iran, for the following reason; the GOP domestic agenda is dead as yesterday's mackerel. There is no chance whatsoever that the administration is going to enjoy success on Social Security, healthcare, the environment, tax policy, or any other domestic issue. Frustration over this predicament is going to lead the White House towards taking the most aggressive approach they can on war. For all practical purposes the reign of Bush II is over, with the exception of foreign policy, where he can still find ways to make mischief.

Good job Congress! Only question will be what part will Bush attach a signing statement to?

My God! Is $7.65 an hour anything to be proud of? How can anyone LIVE on less than $15,000 a year? Look, find a place to rent for $500 a month and that eats up almost HALF of it! It takes another hundred or two to EAT and then it's almost gone. $40 or fifty bucks to drive the car or pay for bus tickets to work. A hundred or two for gas, electric, phone. And maybe cable (if not, the cable industry alone would immediately benefit a LOT if the minumum wage finally INCLUDED the cost of cable in its calculation). Responsible minimum wage earners should plan to invest something in an IRA: a little insurance in case they live longer than retirement day. And after all the bills were paid, could you afford to take a week or two off for vacation?

We've become a nation of slaves.

Given our advantages, we are the most shameful country in the history of mankind.

Paul Wellstone would have told us to organize, Neal, not get mad.

[shrugs] So few elected Democrats ever say that. Pretty fucked up.

I would just like to thank all the Senators out there for passing the minimum wage bill.

Oops, my own Senator Kyl voted nay, along with Coburn of OK, and DeMint of SC!

And to think the folks of AZ voted this pissant back into office. That's what they get.

I'm a nigger too. Whether I'm a lucky infotech guy doing what comes naturally for a grateful client, or otherwise deluded into thinking I'm one that's got, I'm insecure. I don't worry about the things the rich do. I worry about how to pay the mortgage. How is Biden or Hillary going to fix that?

They think they own us. And, like paradox, I think they have evidence to prove it. And who am I, rational person, to argue with reason?

removing the deductibility of punitive damage payments and fines

My boggled mind cries out - did a republican really propose that?
