Debate Proposition

Let's just quit trying to defend the middle east and take the couple of trillion dollars we would spend there over the next ten or so years and create a solar, wind, geothermal infrastructure to power our country and thereby quit oil alltogether.

Had we taken the money we have spent already on Iraq, we could probably have been able to put enough solar-electric panels on every housing unit in American to provide all electrical/AC/heating needs for all housing units in America.

Proposition for Debate: Should we stop engaging in the Middle East to protect petroleum and concentrate on alternative, non-carbon energy instead.

"Even a blind hog can find an acorn, now and then."

Or, the version I always heard growing up, "Even a broken clock's right twice a day."

"Let's just quit trying to defend the middle east and take the couple of trillion dollars we would spend there ..."

Better yet, why don't we just flat-out give every man, woman, and child in the US a cool million.

And when we get through, we could give every man, woman, and child in Iraq a cool million.

And when we get through with that, we could give ...

But before all else, somebody needs to spring for a neurological exam for The Lieber Man.

And I hereby volunteer to make the sacrifice for my country ... and the world.

"Bush has drained out of the Social Security trust fund to pay for his foreign policy and upper income tax cuts"

I belief this to be wrong. Heaven knows W is squandering money but that's not my fault or yours nor is it a problem for the trust fund. Because these funds are backed by the full faith and credit of the US government when it comes time to use the bonds there will be a treasury auction and the money derived from that sale
will be forwarded to social security. The mechanism to retire the bonds and use the proceeds for social security are already in place and has been used. If you go back and read the fine print when the social security trust fund was devised you will find that ,by law, the money had to be put in special bonds from the government. Just because W has squandered it doesn't mean squat legally. The US government has guaranteed it and no politician has the balls to stop it. They might bark a little in that direction but it will never happen.

Despite the receeding chance of SW Asian hegemony, Lieberman's gratified by the needless suffering inflicted on Iraqis and indifferent to the damage to America's national interest. To him, it's justified revenge and he wants more.

Since he has no empathy or direct experience with war and no skin in the fight, the war's costs are beyond his comprehension. Like most neoconservatives, he's essentially violent and predatory with an inexhaustible supply of trivial suggestions, toxic sanctimony and facile patriotism.

He'll fight these wars to the last drop of other people's kid's blood. If his were to lose a fingernail, forget it...war over.

A Terrorism Tax? Excellent idea! A few ideas :
- tax on oil products, not too harsh at first
- sales tax on all cars with 50% or more foreign content
- home sales over $1M
- capital gains over $ .5M/yr

Remember, we are at war. It's about sacrifice.

What a toad Lieberman is! Please note that Joe didn't have the courage to make this proposal during the Senate campaign. He didn't mention a word of it. What's changed between November and today about the budget and the fiscal mess we're in. Joe knows that nothing's changed, only that the bill is coming due finally. The one he managed to ignore when cheered from the sidelines for his adventure in Iraq.

Where was Joe's courage when he could have laid out his vision for what was necessary to fund this war? As usual, it seems to have gone missing. I hope that the Publican voters of CT and the misled Democrats (like that state chair Nancy Di Nardo) realize just how much they've been lied to by Lieberman. Has the toad croaked at last?
