Comments: Representative Murtha Raises the Ante

Good for Murtha! About time the US had a man in Congress. Next on the agenda, de-black Obama and de-Man Hillary, then we can have de-dum-de-dum perfect candidate in 2020, or next Presidential election.

still, i think murtha needs to conduct a very public investigation into the mercenary contracts that the dod entered into with blackwater, sandline, and what others.

i would like to see a roster of their mercs operating in the me, afghanistan. their names, cv's, bios, rate of pay.

i think we should learn who directs their activities, who furnishes them transport assets, weapons, munitions. where are they fed, housed. how long are their tours.

i want someone in the congress to really investigate. furnish us with some real facts.

such as the usa order of battle.

including usa military. civilian contractors[halliburton et alia]. and then the mercenaries. and all the other nationals and their contingents of soldiers, contractors, mercs.

my guess is, that when you add all this up, you might discover that there are 300,000 personnel in the coalition whose objective it is to exterminate iraq.

Nice fantasy, never happen. What I do not, and never will understand, is why the Democrats have not hit Bush with these same facts. How difficult would it have been to hammer Bush and the GOP again and again with these facts everytime they called the opposition "unpatriotic" or "not supporting the troops?" Why not suggest that the number 3,133 dead Americans might be a lower number had this pResident really supported the troops? I'm so tired of the Democrats always being on the defensive side of the fence, and they don't do that very well either. Give it your best shot Murtha, but don't expect anything to change.

By-the-way Mary, excellent post.

“We have a responsibility, Republicans and Democrats have a responsibility to give our troops the resources they need to do their job and the flexibility they need to prevail,” Bush told reporters.

Perfect opportunity for a Democrat to shove those words down Bush's throat.

Judith, the chimp is also fond of saying "We can't lose our resolve", or "If we lose our resolve", x,y, or z will happen.

What the simian simpleton doesn't realize is that alot of us were against his stupid war from way before shock and aw shit, and therefore, justifiably have no resolve to lose.

Judith,
Nice fantasy, never happen. What I do not, and never will understand, is why the Democrats have not hit Bush with these same facts

Because dems were unable to introduce legislation in either house from 2003 until now. Please pass the popcorn!

"the resources to do their job", "the flexibility they need to prevail". The Daily Deception.

The lying rhetoric of abstract nonsense. What's "doin' their job"? What's "prevailing"? The "job" of indefinitely continuing a failed occupation? Of rubbling the sunni areas of Baghdad to "prevail"? The "job" of policing a wide ranging civil war between 20 million shi'ites and sunnis? The "job" of desperately holding onto the sands of Iraq for American oilmen?

The "flexibility" to bomb apartment buildings and call them "terrorist safe-houses"? To ignore the Geneva conventions? The "flexibility" to be forced into four or more tours of duty, and multiple extensions of service?

If Murtha's plan is what we're going to do, fine. It seems a rather indirect way of getting at the problem, but without Repub support to actually directly end the occupation, this is probably the way to go.

The contrivances and machinations the Congress must go through when the "president" refuses to heed the judgment of the voters on the most pressing issue facing the nation. And when "conservative" Congressional Repubs can't get off the rubber-stamping habit, even in the face of defeat.

Attention America: Repubs are hostile to American democracy, if you didn't spot that after the 2000 election and the abomination of Bush v. Gore, perhaps you can add 2 + 2 now.

"Because dems were unable to introduce legislation in either house from 2003 until now. Please pass the popcorn!"

Darms, I know that, but everytime they were on some Sunday morning talk fest, they should have been repeating that over and over and making that very point. They didn't have to be in control of Congress to hit Bush with the truth.
