i'm so tired of this obama black enough debate. in any other circle or way of life, he'd be a black man. the far right instigated this attack, perpetuated by the conservative and i say traitorous, black folk, and now it's seeped into the psyche of modern day progressive black folk. its truly a shame that we embraced this man when he ran for senate, but now, as a people we're starting to question his blackness. what a crockoshit... because he can string subjects and verbs together without holding his crotch he's not black enough. lets debate experience, issues, or policy, can we drop the qualifications of what equates as black? especially those whose last names are sowell, keyes, etc... when exactly did they do anything for african americans? and please tell me how rush limbaugh can make comments to this that are taken with some credibility by those same folks? it saddens me when my own people continually show their willingness to eat their own...
Posted by anthony at February 16, 2007 01:24 AMDuring House floor debate on the Iraq War resolution Thursday, Rep. Don Young (R-Alaska) fell into a trap that's caught plenty of other Iraq war supporters -- misquoting Abraham Lincoln as advocating the hanging of lawmakers who undermine military morale during wartime.
"Congressmen who willfully take action during wartime that damage morale and undermine the military are saboteurs, and should be arrested, exiled or hanged," Young quoted the 16th president as saying.
The only problem: Lincoln never said such a thing. It was actually J. Michael Waller in a piece he wrote for Insight magazine in December of 2003. Waller later told Annenberg's FactCheck.org that the "supposed quote in question is not a quote at all, and I never intended it to be construed as one."
Nothing like a well informed politician. Regardless, this is the kind of talk on the floor of the House from the very people who do not support the troops. What irony. So, does this mean that Democrats should be hung (no cute comments here)?

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) yesterday linked her support for President Bush's war-funding request to strict standards of resting, training and equipping combat forces, a move that could curtail troop deployments and alter the course of U.S. involvement in Iraq.
Pelosi was careful to say no final decisions have been made on binding legislation. But she backed key provisions already floated by Murtha, including requirements that troops be given at least a year's rest between combat deployments, special training in urban warfare and counterinsurgency, and safety equipment that the military has struggled to provide.
The speaker backed Murtha's plan to eliminate funding for the Abu Ghraib prison near Baghdad, where a prisoner-abuse scandal badly tarnished the U.S. image in the region and the world. She also strongly endorsed binding legislation requiring Bush to seek congressional authorization before any military strike on Iran.
"Congress should assert itself . . . and make it very clear that there is no previous authority for the president, any president, any president to go into Iran," she said.

Democrats in State Capitols Push Antiwar Resolutions
Frustrated by the inability of Democrats in Congress to pass a resolution opposing President Bush’s policies in Iraq, state legislators across the country, led by Democrats and under pressure from liberal advocacy groups, are pushing forward with their own resolutions.

Posted by Christopher at February 16, 2007 03:37 AMRaul Grijalva (D-AZ)was reported on RawStory to have made this statement during House Debate:
"This resolution does not demoralize our troops or embolden the insurgents. This resolution offers hope to our troops that an end is in sight and that their elected representatives are not passing on their authority regarding the most important issue confronting our nation today."
I think that is the way we should frame the issue when confronted by Republics. We should add that it also sends the message that we now plan to effectively focus our efforts on the true 'war on terror'.
I have wondered since the announcement of this insane 'surge' if it wasn't simply an attempt to hang the failure of the occupation of Iraq around the necks of the Democrats. Even Bush and Cheney must see that they will soon be forced out of that country.
They know that we will not continue to support this immoral action. Why not make a last ditch attempt to drag the Dems down with them by painting us as the party who lost the Iraq war. The actions of this administration are below contempt. They are knowingly and willingly causing the deaths and horrible injuries of additional US troops and innocent Iraqis purely for political advantage. The fact that we have not already filed a Resolution to impeach is beyond my grasp.
Rep Barbara Cubin R-Wyoming has just hit all of the republican booga booga terrorist talking points right off the memo as if it had never been leaked to the press.
At election time I hope the good people of Wyoming remember that Barbara would rather have more troops killed and wounded than stray from the party of illegal wars.
A perfect example of "the ugly republican".
Posted by TIKI AL at February 16, 2007 07:41 AMCrooks and Liars has Chris Matthews' and David Shuster's report from last night's Hardball posted [Libby Trial Recap:All Roads Go To The White House]. We spend a lot of time bashing the MSM, but sometimes we ought to thank them for getting it right. Besides liking their conclusion, I thought the way they put together clips and audio really told the story well in a byte. Good piece of work!
Posted by Mickey at February 16, 2007 07:55 AMThanks Via, Raul Grijalva (D-AZ) is my congressman!
I've met him, asked us not to get too cynical. He understood it was difficult.
There sure are alot of smart people in Arizona.
Rep. Bill Young, R-Florida 10th district, St. Petersburg, Largo has just said: "I would like to bring the troops home, but I remember September 11th."
That statement speaks volumes, and pretty much explains how we got into this mess.
As the great philosopher Tweety said yesterday: "The fact that this administration got us into a situation with no good choices is in itself a failure."
Posted by TIKI AL at February 16, 2007 08:54 AMDid Tweety really say that? He must be on the Enemy Of The State List with the rest of us.
Posted by JohnT at February 16, 2007 10:13 AMAnthony, here's an idea that I wish everyone would think about.
I like Barrack Obama because he's Barrack Obama.
He's an American, he's smart, and he has what it takes, and best of all he's a democrat and not a repulican. We don't need to talk about anything else.
Q: Anyone notice the lack of any racial anything?
Damn people get over it, we are all in this together. The way some people in this country/world are played is just a joke.
The north won, get the hell out if you don't like it and most of all stfu. We got work to do.
