Comments: More Than Half Of Public Would Defund The Surge

If fox says 54%, it's really 84%. Simple formula. Just add 30% to whatever they are not for, and it will be pretty accurate.

as long as Bush has money, he'll fight fake wars. Stop the money, stop the war. The "support our troops on the ground" line is GOP B.S. Tell the War President that funding will end at a point in time and it's up to him to tell his generals to get the troops redeployed by that date. If he doesn't do it, then it's on him and he needs to be removed from office.

And these numbers may in fact be a low-ball gauge of the public's true feelings on the surge.

......or as "Chimp" would say:"that is the same as misunderestimate"

Under the insane baseless "conservative" Repub version of the Constitution, the branch the Founders intended to be mainly responsible for "war powers" supposedly has only the blunt instrument of "funding" to influence the nation's top general (i.e the "commander in chief").

Repubs seriously argue that the Congress has no power under the Constitution to decide to end a military campaign it has authorized, or to end a war it has once declared. Only the president can do this under their absurd, anti-democratic, unworkable, anti-historical deformation of the Constitution.

The Founders would look on these "conservative" Repubs as though they were unthinking, grunting apes, and simply declare, "Gentlemen, you cannot be serious". They would think it obvious that this was NOT the intent of the document, and perverse that one could make such clownish "arguments".

Cut the funding. All it takes is leadership.

The Founding Fathers would would have have known them for what they are: Tories. These people can no longer be tolerated in American discourse. They should leave America to the real patriots, and find a society that espouses their brands of socialism and racism. A mixture of feudalism, communism and nazism would do. Some African despot should have exactly what they are seeking in a country.

We'd better defund the surge... it will keep Bush from going ahead and invading Iran without seeking Congress' consent.

And if more than half of the public hadn't voted for a chimp we wouldn't need a surge.
