Comments: Al Gore Academy Award Could Come Tomorrow

When the history of this disastrous era of America is written and digested, Bush v. Gore will be recognized as the seminal disaster: our most trusted national institution spectacularly failing us when we needed it most.

When five justices bend over backward to ENSURE that the loser of the popular vote "wins" the election, to ENSURE that the most anti-democratic feature of our constitution decides the "winner" of a presidential election for the first time in over a hundred years, historians will be able to see the abject partisan (not legal) nature of this lawless "judgement".

From Bush v. Gore flow all the catastrophes of the last six years, and the disasters set in motion for our sorry future as BushAmericans. Never forget that.

"Al Gore is not the winner of the popular, but not the electoral, vote of Election 2000."

I think what you meant to say was, "Al Gore IS the winner of the popular, but not the electoral, vote of Election 2000."

If I recall my days with the Jesuits aright, moral theology teaches us that restitution for theft requires the return of the thing stolen, and not a substitute, to the person from whom it was stolen, and not a surrogate.

when I heard Al Gore give his concession speech, my heart nearly broke. He was so eloquent and patriotic, what a guy. After hearing all the media lies about him, and then all the crap with the thugs in FL and the supremely stupids pulling the rug out from under him, I really felt bad for him. I am glad he has his familial support that got him through that shitty time, and that Tipper encouraged him to fire up his powerpoint presentations once again. I hope he decides to run, but I wish there was a way to counteract the corporatewhoremedia spinners. Run Al Run!

I am hoping against hope that he will announce another run during the Oscars.

Al Gore is not the winner of the popular, but not the electoral, vote of Election 2000

please explain the reason for the typo in the above

What euzoius said.

Oh, and just you watch - if Al takes home the statue, the Fucking Media will turn it into something sad and loser-ish. If they bother to mention it.

Seems like a fairly boring Oscars this year in terms of feature films and celebs - I think Al's gonna be the story - at least on the blogs.

God, to think what has been stolen from this country.

Evidently Jimmy Carter has been begging Al Gore to run. He has told Gore that although he can do much about global warming, he could be much more affective sitting in the WH. Go Jimmy!

Yeah, thanks for all those coal burning energy plants, Al. Those are the major contributor to CO2 emissions.

If he were serious, he'd be leading the charge to replace coal and natural gas plants with nuclear. Like France, Britain, India, China, Japan and Australia are doing. Instead, he's just grandstanding on the issue rather than trying to do anything about it. Typical Democrat.

This will not happen. While it would be interesting Al will not upstage the entire evening. That, would piss off a whole lot of the academy.

Best you can hope for is chants of "Run Al, run!"

If he were serious, he'd be leading the charge to replace coal and natural gas plants with nuclear.

This has been addresses here several times Muck. The oversimplification and disengenous arguments are silly.

This reminds me of a column that local crank and self-described 'post 9-11 conservative' Cinnamon Stillwell wrote in the SF Chronicle last week:

When Awards Become Politicized

But it's documentaries that are the main avenue for pushing politics in Hollywood these days. It's hardly surprising that former Vice President Al Gore's film, "An Inconvenient Truth," was nominated in the documentary feature category. And it will come as even less of a surprise if Gore's film takes home the Oscar. Anyone who has judged Gore's documentary on its merits as a film will know that these awards have little do with craft and everything to do with politics. Gore's view of the coming catastrophe he associates with man-made global warming conforms to that held by the overwhelmingly liberal Hollywood establishment. Hence the nomination...As a result, awards that were once seen as prestigious are now viewed, at least by those who lean rightward, merely as hollow gestures. Such cynicism does little to promote a culture of achievement. This politicizing also dampens creativity, for if all one needs to do to be rewarded is to produce work that repeats the generally held mantras of his peers, very few will buck the trend. In this way, not only is independent thought inhibited, but it is actively discouraged. Somehow, I doubt that's what the framers of all these honors had in mind.

She is such a third-rate wannabe that it's hard to get worked up about her, and even though I don't like to give traffic to trolls, this is such a funny piece that it's worth a read;>

Yeah Simp, but we're still planning on building hundreds of coal plants.

Nobody must take global warming seriously. That's the only conclusion we can reach. And if that's the case, then maybe the right wingers are right and global warming really isn't an issue after all.

"Al Gore IS the winner of the popular, but not the electoral, vote of Election 2000."

What Jolly said.

Oh suck me, muck.

Most Dems believe in conservation first--reducing the need for whatever type of energy. How many compact fluorescent lightbulbs you got in your house? How much insulation? What's your thermostat set at? How far do you commute to work? Do you use public transporation?

Al Gore did not win an Oscar, he was not a producer.
