Posted by Sharon at March 2, 2007 11:46 AMYou need to stop looking to the Democrats for anything.
Posted by Judith at March 2, 2007 11:58 AMYou are talking about Democrats here Steve aren't you? Stand for anything Democrats can't stand for something let alone stand up to someone whose poll numbers are in the toilet. Why anyone would look towards a Democrat sure causes me to pause. Sure we need them, we need them to show a contrast with what's right. These Democrats today had to swallow so much from the Clinton years they got a sore throat just like Monika did. You just can't expect them to do anything but get in the way of accomplishment.
Healthcare, are you looking for universal or single payor coverage? Single payor like Canada and England or universal like Switzerland and Sweden. For me the Swiss method is the way to go. Everybodies got coverage, but one has the ability to go out of the network for help if one wants. More freedom, more choice, people would have to pay a co-pay of some sort, 10 to 25 dollars per visit. You go the Canadian or English way and people will abuse the system causing delays in service.
Posted by peter at March 2, 2007 12:44 PMAgreed, Steve.
The midterms were about Iraq and little else.
If the Pelosi/Reid show don't deliver the goods and get the country out of that quagmire called Iraq, our majority in the Congress may be short-lived.
Posted by Christopher at March 2, 2007 12:52 PMThe Pelosi/Reid show can't deliver folks. They're all talk and campaign. A pizza would be very cold by the time they deliver. By then we're all dusty and beyond caring.
Posted by peter at March 2, 2007 01:08 PMI continue to boggle at the thought that congress hasn't put forth any proposals that the people of this country would approve?
universal health care, funding for schools before military budget, infrastructure repair, public financing of all elections, et al. Then their reps would vote against and we would turn out all the remaining radical right remaining in congress and in other elected positions across the land. You will have your red districts that always vote by greed or stupidity, but the overall balance will be back to where it is by percentage, 65/35.
then, no state house, no house of congress will be red stamped from that point on. It will take only honest government to prevent them from ever coming back again. If we can tax the extreme rich and make sure that laws prohibit them from committing election based crimes again, then the plague will be over.
why? why not act? where are our congress persons that have the opportunity, and the public mandate? we are becoming impatient.
oldtree, the 65/35 ratio passed long ago. My kids weren'rt even born when that ratio existed. They're grown up and out of the house now. Wake up. 62 million people voted for the president. Election fraud, where were the cheaters for 2006. Same people ran the 2006 vote as ran the 2004 vote as well as the 2002 and 2000 vote.
Obviously the turnout was much different in the 2006 vote, less than half the turnout from 2004. Motivate your voters and the count will happen. Energize the electorate and the count will come. Get off this election fraud junk. Sure some happens once in a while in a few places. A few places only, think of the conspiracy involved to attempt that on a national bases. Each district, get real. You mock all those devoted poll workers with this talk. They don't have to be there. They are and they don't want they're work cheapened the way you seem to be doing it. Find some other reason for loosing when it happens. 2006, my side lost, our electorate didn't show up. We'll see for 2008. We'll see who's more motivated. As for the Democrats majority being short lived...the 2010 census will change that anyhow.

Your preaching to the wrong crowd re conspiracies.
Posted by snark at March 2, 2007 01:33 PMPelosi and Reid are beholden to the same corporations the Repugs are, so nothing will change until we get corporate and private money out of politics.

I'd love to hear what Sam Gariner has to say about it too.
The point of Lt Col Kwiakowski's (sp) that stands out for me is this: when Dick Cheney calls the Iraw effort a big success, what he really means is that we have 4 permanent military bases designed to last 30 yrs and capable of launching strikes anywhere in the Middle East, and that it represents the cheapest solution for the NeoCons in their support of global empire.
She also agrees a lot of Democrats think it's a good idea too.
Posted by GTASH at March 2, 2007 01:58 PMSorry, that was supposed to be "Gardiner", and "Iraq".
I am beginning to see why ordinary keyboards do not work well with computer games and kids.

We are not worthy, must all think like snark...must all think like snark!

Right, so you agree with my point. Many here do believe that systematic afforts have been used by the Republicans to steal elections. Hence my comment to peter.
Posted by snark at March 2, 2007 08:12 PMsnark, Your comment to peter was correct.
Other times you can be a bit condescending to us mere mortals. If your confused, I'm refering to Wellstone's plane crash. Very easy to snip the brake line (old movie line).

And Holy Joe LikudMan (R-Israel)
It's interesting that even in ancient (pre-communist) China, if an emperor was truly bad and out of line in his actions, the people would revolt, and then the military would overthrow the emperor, and install a new one.
If you're waiting on the Democrats to get the ship of state going a different direction, then you'll be waiting a long time. You'll find Dems are more like Lieberman than Feingold.
If you want change, then it's up to you. Not the parties.
