I believe his name was Pat Tillman, not Jake.
Oh, I see later you used Pat, but in the first paragraph you used Jake.
Posted by CG at March 4, 2007 04:57 PMThanks, fixed.
Posted by paradox at March 4, 2007 04:57 PMThese are fixed, I'm terribly sorry, errors like these give me nightmares.
I'm pretty tired, is all. [sigh]
Posted by paradox at March 4, 2007 05:01 PMCould Jake the Snake be our next QB/Congressperson?
He may not have won a championship, but he was a hell of a lot better than Schuler.

Incident Detailed
Published: May 10, 1997
JAKE PLUMMER, the former Arizona State quarterback, had to be physically restrained from accosting a woman who has accused him of sexually abusing her in a nightclub, according to a Tempe, Ariz., police report. The report said the woman saw Plummer outside Club Rio on March 23, shortly after the bar closed. She yelled at him, ''Don't ever do that to me again!''
The report said Plummer, who appeared drunk, tried to advance on the woman. A friend of Plummer's grabbed both of his arms to stop him. Plummer kicked the woman hard enough that the woman started to cry, the report said.
Plummer could face potential charges of felony sexual abuse and misdemeanor assault.
...We don't take kindly in these hare parts to role models celebrat'in thar new NFL contract by get'n drunk in our local saloon and grabbin our women-folk in the crotch on the dance floor, pardner.
They were probably askin' for it AL. Cut him some slack. He was a buddy of Pat Tillmans!
Posted by snark at March 4, 2007 08:12 PMFuck the plumbing, I just got engaged to Anne Coulter. But I'm sort of confused about anatomy. Isn't this thingy supposed to..oh, never mind.
Posted by at March 4, 2007 08:30 PMI think he was more like an ex-roomate of Tillman. Don't remember if it was at ASU or when they were with the Cardinals.
Yeah AL, he's done some wacky things. Mild for most juvenile football players.
At least he's riding off into the sunset on his terms.
I'd love to see him run against Larry Craig for the Idaho Senate seat!
Gotta admit, Broncos are pretty stupid to get rid of a quarterback with a 40-18 overall record. If that kid Cutler goes down with an injury, because Shanahan never has big offensive lines, they will be in for a world of hurt.
Posted by Seven of Six at March 4, 2007 08:37 PMSoS,
They want Jake to stay around next season, but he refuses to play B/U.
Record, yes, and talented, but he does make some poor, really poor decisions on the field under-pressure a lot. Loved watching him play.. wish he would stick around.

Jake Plummer cited for alleged road rage
By Bill Jempty
From the Denver Post-
Broncos quarterback Jake Plummer has been issued a summons by the Englewood police in connection with a purported “road-rage-type incident” last month, investigator John Hoehler said Tuesday night.
Police were sent to East Hampden Avenue and Downing Street on April 20 after a report of a hit-and-run accident. The victim of the incident - identified by Fox 31 News as Doug Stone - told officers he had been involved in a road rage incident with the driver of a gray Honda van.
When the van stopped at a red light, the driver got out and kicked the front of Stone’s truck. The man then got back into the Honda, put it in reverse and hit the front of Stone’s vehicle causing minor damage, then left the scene, Hoehler said.
...Now Doug probably WAS asking for it.
At least Jake didn't empty a Glock 9 into the guy like most Arizona drivers would have.
He's definately showing signs of maturity and would make a great politician.
Getting over the whimp factor of committing road rage in a Honda mini-van may be problematic, however.
Posted by TIKI AL at March 4, 2007 11:20 PMSorry Simp, Jake was already a back-up in Denver and was doing what was needed to help Cutler out. He did not refuse to play back-up for Denver.
He refuses to play back-up for Tampa. He was told he would be #2 on the depth chart behind Chris Simms and have to compete for the starting job.
Rather than go East, he'd stay in the west and retire.
Man TIKI, you don't like Jake do you?
Stone was pulling one of those 'paparazzi' things on Jake and his girlfriend. Stone called her a bunch of names and Jake wanted to defend her honor.
I have to say, I did meet John Elway back in the 80's while he was at Stanford. Started a fight in a bar (the Goose), then hid behind his linemen. Big fight, rugby team against a football team. But hey, Elway's a hall of famer, all's forgiven.
Jake's made some bad decisions on and off the field, what a louse.
Does he score any points for his millions contributed in charity work?
Hero worship is hero worship.
The Bushies tried to do it with Tillman.
Paradox tears down an entire organization wholesale and puts one guy on a pedestal for sentimental reasons.
Both were making political statements. Is it so different.
Does he score any points for his millions contributed in charity work?
Does the NFL get any credit for the millions it gives to charity?
Ah, pro sports the worst escapism. I sure am glad I can bet on them.
Hero worship is hero worship.
"Thank you, Mr. Plummer. Go in peace and may good fortune follow you always."
Does the NFL get any credit for the millions it gives to charity?
About as much as Jake Plummer is receiving, evidently.
One National Football League player of honor and integrity never went along with this foul charade...

No, but he did wear Tillman's # on the back of his helmet even when he was told by the NFL he couldn't. Paid a fine in doing so.
Posted by Seven of Six at March 5, 2007 08:02 AMPaid a fine in doing so.
But he still took part in the spectacle that we all are supposed to condemn.
And his fine was paid out of the millions he made off of the 'bread and circuses'. So he still cashed his check. It was just a bit smaller is all.
But good on him for standing up for what he believes in.
The Jake Plummer Foundation.
"Committed to helping sick and abused children and raising awareness of Alzheimer's disease and effects."
Most of the star players in the NFL have charitable foundations. How many are started at the instigation of their business managers as tax shelters? Not that that should take away from the fact that they do it.
But hey, I'm not the one blasting the NFL and anyone who enjoys watching the sport of football here am I?
Posted by snark at March 5, 2007 08:25 AMWanna talk 'Tiger'?
Nah...let's just say we did.
Take care snark.
Posted by Seven of Six at March 5, 2007 08:33 AMWanna talk 'Tiger'?
Tiger gives millions upon millions to charity too.
Maybe someone will write a post about the evils of the PGA?
Posted by snark at March 5, 2007 08:42 AMPlease...NO!
Posted by Seven of Six at March 5, 2007 08:52 AM7: "Jake wanted to defend her honor."
Yes, he places women up on a pedestal.
(so he can look up their skirts)
What a pervert...I hate the mediocre QB!

Jesus, I spewed on my computer!!! Very funny!
Posted by tempus at March 5, 2007 04:41 PMPeople are so dumb in this country. Pride in your country is good; pride to the extent it leads to complacency and desensitization will get you killed. This country's killing itself from the inside out and much as we don't want to believe it, the rest of the world is all too happy to see us obliterate ourselves for our arrogance.
Posted by John Q Public's Twin at March 5, 2007 05:59 PMJake, thanks for all the hard work. You deserve everything good and I hope you find whatever it is you're wanting.
