Comments: Tie The Saudis And Iranians To The Solution

Wow, this is called Responsibility, something all parties involved lack, most particularly the Bush presidency. Brilliant!
The Democratic Leadership must act on this!
Thanks, Steve.

Nice post, Steve. I posted a diary with some commentary on your post here. Some excellent thoughts, but I just don't see the Democrats having a backbone to do what they should right now. Very frustrating.

Bush right now is back to linking al-qaeda to Iraq in every sentence. I thinks it's very unclear whether there is any reality behind al qaeda in Iraq.

This proposal is very reminiscent of Brzezinski's recent plan: work out a withdrawal schedule with the Iraqis---early 2008, whatever---and then meet with everyone in the region, tell them "we're gonna be leavin' folks, and this here country is your neighbor, whatcha gonna do about holding it together and helping it stand up? Or do you REALLY want a hot civil war on your borders? Anyway, we'll be outta here, just lettin' you know."

An actual new strategy---one that gets us out "honorably" (so, so important to emotion based wingnuts) and puts the burden back on the powers of the region.

Pragmatic. Responsible. Practical. Something the whole country could get behind.

And with Bushco, DOA. Worst President Ever.

Unfortunately, won't work. The Saudis and Iranians can't "come clean" without the US doing the same. And we're never gonna do that. Too many intrigues, plots and deals, far too many leaving blood on the hands of those three governments, for any of it to make sense to the public.
