Comments: Robert Pear Misses His Own Poll

Thank Gawd I live in Canada...

If we had universal healthcare in America, then all of our returning soldiers from Iraq would have received the best medical care humanly possible...and there would have been no Walter Reed Hospital tragedy with subpar healthcare for our Bush War-wounded after their return from the Bush War-zone.

Comprende?

The system we have today vs. gov't run health care are not the only choices. Universal coverage through private insurance companies is the direction the states (MA and CA in particular) are heading. I'd like to see some type of system that covers everyone, but isn't government run. Poll questions like the one given are a false choice and don't say anything about what people might actually want. Is there a way to get everyone covered without having a government-run healthcare system? I don't know, but that's what I'd like to see happen.

It's interesting that while many people in this country want to move toward a system more like Canada's, Canada seems to be moving toward a system more like ours. Many people there carry private insurance to cover medical costs that either aren't covered by the gov't system or take too long through that system.
