The surge is a continued success.
9 more soldiers died today in a bomb blast. This must the one bomb a day that Laura was talking about.
Bring the troops home now!

But...but...the news just said how safe it was, and how much better it was, and how much all the troops loved it in Iraq.....and how Walter Reed was proof corporations can do it better...
Corporate war does not seem to be any easier than any other war. Idiot PNAC fucksticks.
Posted by phidipides at March 6, 2007 06:25 AMGee, you think these numbers may embolden the House to cut funding for Bush's Iraq war and not approve any future requests from him?
Good grief--he'd gotten above 33%??
Posted by CG at March 6, 2007 06:29 AM34-35%.
Bush has been demonstrating the fine art of levitation in his poll numbers. He's been hovering around 30-35% for what seems like a year.
Word is that the Maharishis are jealous. All they can do is that weird crossed leg jump.
Posted by idiosynchronic at March 6, 2007 06:55 AMGallup’s latest poll, taken March 2-4, which had a sample comprised of 37% independents, 35% Democrats, and only 27% self-identified Republicans...
If we keep seeing polls where only 27% self-identify as Republicans, they're in serious trouble. Obviously, a party has to have incredible mainstream/independent appeal if they are to win majorities with only a 27% mind share. But how are they going to generate that kind of crossover, "soccer mom" appeal? Many wingnuts, after all, are under the wacky impression that the party's current problem is that they are insufficiently hardcore conservatives.
Posted by dj moonbat at March 6, 2007 07:09 AMWatch his numbers further tank this spring as gas hits close to 3 bucks again.
It's gone up 25 cents in 2 weeks here in AZ.
Posted by Seven of Six at March 6, 2007 07:37 AMthe drop in gas prices in the run-up to the Nov. elections is all that saved the GOPers from losing more House seats and at least one more Senate seat. If I were planning a driving vacation around our beautiful country, I'd mark late September 08 as the time. Gas will have come down by then, and it's a wonderful time to be in the Rockies. As for Bush's poll numbers, its pretty obvious that the public has written him off completely. His only use is raising campaign money for Hard Right White People. Too bad he's still in charge.

We'll be airing the country out for a generation, assuming that the Repubs can even be defeated. The damage this time is so pervasive and extensive, that it likely can't be repaired (unlike Reagan's mess).
Our budget is in tatters, on the edge of fiscal catastrophe. No one will dare raise taxes, and cutting the absurd "defense" budget could not even be mentioned.
Americans always think that "today is the first day of the rest of your life"--endless chances for renewal, rejuvenation, redemption. We pushed our amazing luck too far this time, I fear.
Great polls for Nero, though. Wait till the "troop care" and the "politicizing the US attorneys" scandals gather some more steam--if the corporate press allows them to.

"It's that the Republicans seem to have created a con game in which they take power, steal the country blind, allow their craziest ideologues to wildly experiment with theories that only radical fringers think have a remote possibility of success and basically run amuck until they are forced to stop. Then they harrass the Democrats as they clean up the mess, setting themselves up for a resurgence by making it very clear that unless they are given another chance to mess things up they will make the political system even more ugly than it already is.
It's the political equivalent of a toddler throwing a tantrum in the grocery store."

The SW Asian fiascos are just the iceberg's tip. America's done the R-O-I on GOP/Reagan-Cheney policies and wants them gone...four months ago. Pelosi, Reid & Co. have no skin in the fight, so time's not of the essence. For many Americans, the last three decades have been eaten by locusts. One opportunity cost of the Iraq war is an energy policy, battered by Reagan/Bush/Cheney and neglected by Clinton, that would've minimized many other problems. It's time to write off these sunk costs and start dealing with some pressing realities. Otherwise, we're going to end up where we're headed.
Like Digby's grocery store toddler, leaders sometimes abuse popular indulgence and require discipline. Fortunately leaders, like toddlers, can be trusted to follow where the people lead them.

Could we not discuss Bush's taint? I'm a little queasy this morning.
