Bless their hearts, the Green Mountain Boys (and Girls) came through again, in the more recent spirit of former Burlington Mayor Bernie Sanders, a socialist/progressive who caucuses with the Democrats because he has no other choice. Bernie, born in Brooklyn, so he has two great heritages, said this: "The revelation that the president authorized the release of classified information in order to discredit an Iraq war critic should tell every member of Congress that the time is now for a serious investigation of how we got into the war in Iraq, and why Congress can no longer act as a rubber stamp for the president." I'm sure that made a few Dem rubber-stamps squirm. Go green!
Why stop at Iraq--withdraw from Afghanistan too. The so-called 'war on terror' is a pile of crapola. Even Rumsfeld said so, and he oughta know.
Posted by Don Bacon at March 6, 2007 08:07 PMWhat a very sensible state, with an informed and brave citizenry. I have decided I shall vacation there this year.
If only its neighboring state, which foolishly harbors not one, but TWO, US senators actively involved in destroying our republic does not exhibit the same characteristics.
America can no longer afford any Repubs hailing from supposedly Blue states.

Good move. If you're so inclined, the bicycle tours in Vermont are (were) superb, but there's a lot more too. I guess you're referring to New Hampshire. Don't blame the 'Live Free or Die' granite-staters too much for their pols. They're misinformed.
i am proud to say that i live in the great state of vermont

Vermont, meet New Mexico. New Mexico, Vermont, good to meet you. (I'm in NJ.)
New Mexico is going to vote SOON on whether or not to impeach George Bush for his crimes. That they have made it to the point of having this vote is a victory of sorts but they need more support. Action is required and it is easy enough to do in defense of our United States. The people who need to be convinced are conveniently listed with their contact information here.

Can I ask a question? What is the point?
Posted by Judith at March 7, 2007 06:00 AMTo get one of the state legislatures to enact a bill calling for the impeachment of Bush---which may then be forwarded to the House of Reps.
Big post on it over at Kos. These town resolution were a HUGE amount of work by the VT lib'ruls, sounds like they are being fought by state leaders every step on the way.
Maybe dennis can tell us more.
Posted by euzoius at March 7, 2007 06:25 AMJudith, i think the point is people power. I lived in Vermont for six winters and attended town meetings every year. Town meetings are the purest expression of democracy i have ever encountered. Oh, from the old timers i experienced a fair or unfair amount of prejudice: they just didnt think someone from California would be able to fire up a woodburning stove or stack 5-6 cords of wood. I showed 'em. I am disappointed to not see the village in which i lived showing up on the list at Kos. But two nearby villages show up. Vermont was also the first state in the union to elect a Jewish Woman as Governor / i'll remember her name in a minute / as soon as i post this. smile. On the down home level town meeting day (first tuesday in March) is also traditionally the day one starts seeds for spring planting. Many Vermonters grow much of their own food, another practice i dearly admire. Hooray for Vermont; the winters are tough and so are Vermonters. i contributed to Bernie Sanders even though i live now in the reddest of red states. And, yes, i started seeds yesterday as per usual.
Posted by Katherine Hunter at March 7, 2007 08:46 AMOoops--looks like I went a tad overboard on Senator Bernie Sanders--apparently somebody got to him.
News report: Supporters said that while this week's votes should get the attention of Vermont's Congressional delegation, all three members — Senators Patrick Leahy (D) and Bernie Sanders (I) and Rep. Peter Welch (D) — have said they do not support beginning impeachment proceeding against the president, though they are in favor of investigating Bush administration policies — and all three are in favor of at least a phased withdrawal of U.S. troops.
Posted by Don Bacon at March 7, 2007 09:37 AM48 towns in Vermont voted for impeachment, not 23.
