Herseth Wins: One Closer to a Majority

Stephanie Herseth won South Dakota's special election to fill the vacancy left by the conviction of former Representative Bill Janklow. Polls showed Herseth leading all the way, but it was tight in the end, as she got 51% of the vote. It's an impressive victory in a conservative district, but it was alot closer than most people expected. We like to think that the massive multiple failures of the Bush administration will be enough to usher in sweeping change in Washington, but it won't happen unless we work our butts off.

Today we can congratulate Congresswoman-elect Herseth, whose victory will give her the advantage going into the fall election rematch with Larry Diedrich. Tomorrow, we have to get back to work organizing, donating, and talking with friends, neighbors, and coworkers. We need 11 seats to take back Congress, but we can do it one race at a time.
