Bush Administration Unable To Account For Katrina Expenditures

by Steve

According to Reuters this afternoon, the Bush Administration is unable to tell Congress who is getting the Katrina reconstruction money, and what that money is going for. When Representative David Obey and Senator Robert Byrd asked for a status report this week, the only pieces of information the administration was able to provide were spreadsheets that showed aggregate dollar amounts for general program categories, not an accounting of who was getting the money and for what.

In other words, the Bush accounting system looks about as sophisticated as your household budget does each month, with just a few more zeroes.
