Week Of April 16th Will Be Momentous

by Steve

My original post on this topic opined that the week of April 16 will be a bad week for several senior Bush administration officials. Alberto Gonzales is slated to try and save his job on Tuesday, April 17 in front of a Senate Judiciary Committee that may by then be predisposed in favor of his departure. And now Henry Waxman, after being ignored over a dozen times by Condi Rice since 2001, has told Rice she is scheduled to appear before his House Oversight and Government Reform Committee on Wednesday the 18th to answer questions he asked of her back on March 12th that she has been ignoring since. While Rice has had no time to respond to Waxman during that time, she has found time for over a dozen press events including several with Fox News.

But after reading Soccerdad's post below about the reports of preparations for a strike against Iran, I wonder why the Democrats in Congress actually think they will ever see Alberto on the 17th or Condi on the 18th. They won't.

For those of you keeping score at home as to when the next New Moon will be to assist our stealth flights and cruise missile attacks in Iran, it happens to fall on Tuesday, April 17th, the day that Saudi King Abdullah has now said he'd rather remain at home.

We started the first Gulf War on a New Moon.

Update: As commenter mje noted in the comments section to Soccerdad's post below, Israel's DEBKAfiles website, which has a spotty record but is tied into the defense and intelligence community inside Israel, just posted this today:

DEBKAfile Exclusive: US financial sources in Bahrain report American investors in Bahrain advised to pack up business operations and leave.
The advice came from officers with US Central Command 5th Fleet HQ at Manama, who spoke of security tension, a hint at an approaching war with Iran. Arab sources report the positioning of a Patriot anti-missile battery in Bahrain this week; they say occupancy at emirate hotels has soared past 90% due mostly to the influx of US military personnel. They also report Western media crews normally employed in military coverage are arriving in packs.

I wonder who asked for the April 17th appearance date for Gonzales: Justice or Leahy? If it was Justice, I would wager that we'll never get to that hearing.
